The Spearow and Pidgey were singing there amazing song of winter, twittering away at the slightest of movement. It made Max feel great as he walked up the fern covered path, with sweet smelling flowers, to the gym. He was particularly psyched because he had the upper hand when it came to grass types. He just hoped he could be humble enough to win without getting to cocky. Blast was standing next to him, having been released from his enclosure after they left the Pokemon Center. He was playing around with a limped flower, surprised as pollen sprung into the air. Pretty soon, Max reached the main gym entrance and walked inside, the doors whooshing as they slid open.

A small head popped out from behind a tree, barely noticable, but dissappeared once it saw Max. It was an Oddish; it ran over to a set of large, plant-covered stairs that had a vine of yellow flowers crawling up the railing. A large, golden bell that had, at first, been wholly covered by a thicket of trees, was heard chiming throughout the entire 'forest.' Many pokemon scampered away, though their direction and their purpose were both unknown to all but themselves. All of them, save one. A large Exeggcutor stepped away from it's roots; it had been posing as a tree, and had been doing a wonderful job. <I do not battle. I never have, never will. I am here to escort challengers of my trainer and her kin.> It said, completely ignoring both birds. If it had never battled, many Rare Candies, or some other method of battleless training, had obviously taken place. The Exeggutor was huge. However, its very auro seemed to brim with a kindness reachable only through peace. It obviously spoke the truth. But just where did it escort their challengers to?

Max looked around, in complete and total awe over what he was seeing. A forest in a building was all that he could come to describe it as. There were plants along the path, plants that Max had never seen nor dreamt about. The trees...oh the trees. They were the biggest he had ever saw, reaching up effortlessly and limitlessly towards the ceiling, swaying like their was a cool winter's breeze. Max stepped around, performing a full 360 to take in the full effect. When reality came crashing back down, Max saw the Exeggutor. He was a massive beheameth, he would have scared a small child if not for one thing. The sense of peace that emitted from all over. He was the only Pokemon left, maybe because he had to escort Max to his opponent. The other Pokemon ran off, Max guessed, probably because of Blast being out of his ball, fire tromping grass. Or they could have feared Mac. Either way, Max was just happy to be in such a wonderful, sweet-smelling place. He answered the Exeggcutor with a nod and decided to follow it, where ever it would take him.

<The pokemon have left to watch the upcoming battle. It is the first one; it is natural that they should be excited.> The Exeggutor explained, totally contradicting Max's thoughts without even realizing it. For being such a huge, usually clumsy pokemon, the Exeggutor was actually quite graceful on it's feet, as well as agile and fast. If Serenity had registered it as one of her gym pokemon, she wouldn't have been placed in Greenville. No, she probably could have been in the Elite Four, had she REALLY wanted to. But he was only high levelled pokemon, and though the Exeggutor was hers, she hadn't been the one to treat it so luxuriously with stat enhancers. He lead Max up the stairs, where the golden bell that had been rung only minutes before was in plain view. It was massive, and looked heavy. It was hung up by a link of chains, entwined with strong green vines. (They were not only easy on the eyes, but enforced the metal, as well.) They were attached to something so high up, nothing standing on the ground would have been able to even guess at what it was. The bell had a small crack forming in one side, but other than that, it seemed expertly cared for. As the Exeggutor had earlier suggested, there were tons of grass pokemon surrounding the edges of a pit hole. The pithole... Was the battlefield. Or, at least, would support the battlefield when it rose up from the depths. <She will come soon. She will come.> The Exeggutor said, and placed himself on a referee stand. Well, this battle had all the looks of being gym leader-biased. Fun.

Max just followed and nodded, almost ignoring everything that was said to him. He saw the bell, the Grass Pokemon all there to see a battle, and most importantly, he saw a pit. Was that really were he was to battle? He stepped over by the pit, watching the Exeggcutor take his place as the referee. Max decided against standing in the pit, for fear that it would rise up or he would make a mistake.

((That's good, considering I left out one minor detail... The bottom wasn't visible, and it was at least 100 feet deep xD)) All at once, as though it had been rehearsed many times, every pokemon there let out a powerful Sweet Scent, making the air even more refreshing than before. The lights dimmed, and a soothing melody poured out from nowhere. A slim, green clad figure appeared. Long, jet-black hair fell down to her waist, and her eyes were a vibrant shade of blue. Her skin was slightly tanned, and all her clothes were loose and of earthy shades. Though her outfit covered a large portion of her feet, she was barefoot, walking over on hardened, yet still peaceful, feet. No footsteps were left nor heard, and she seemed to be floating above the ground, rather than walking upon it. She stepped up to the opposite side of the stadium, without saying a word or even looking over at her opponent. Her long hair gleamed brightly even as the lights dimmed further. It fell easily over her head, as though it were a sheet of silk rather than so common as hair, as she looked deep within the pit before which she stood. She muttered something unintelligible in a light, even voice. A Bellsprout by the side of the pit reached it's vines over the edge, and moved it around in a mysterious pattern, like a vine-dance, almost. Most would have expected a... Well, noise, at very least, as over 200 gallons of water poured into the huge pit. Two platforms, both in the shape of a half-sphere, emerged from the sides of the pit that wasn't filled. The were ajoined in the middle, and connected silently. It was a big circle of soft, lucious grass, though it was short. There was water, now, in a grass gym; interesting. The pit before them enlarged, and the podiums they stood on (if they could be called that) rose out of the ground, stooping up a flat-topped triangle. The trainers sat in a grass-bottomed, small box, fenced in by thin, but tall, lengths of metal, shaped into flowers and trees, things of that nature. There were no other decorations, nor any other color but black on them. A splash came up at last as a net dropped from the sky, going deep within the water, not revealing itself again. It was at this point that the girl spoke. The entire process had taken 20, maybe 30 minutes. It was, for some unknown reason, the most peaceful moment of many people's lives. "Welcome, trainer, to my gym. We may each use 3 pokemon, and 1 item. Would you like a double battle or a single battle?" Her voice was even and commanded authority, though she was the only gym leader (at the time) in all of Cefite. "There is enough water in here to drown any but a water pokemon, and the water has enough pressure to kill even a water pokemon. An ice pokemon may survive for a short while under there, but not for long. The net guards pokemon from going in too deeply. I would not suggest testing it's limits."
((Muwaha! I've been wanting to do this for a looong time... Foil someone's hopes and dreams of running her over with fire pokemon as soon as they step in xD I'm so mean...))

OoC: Noooo! My plan. Wel, on to plan B!
BiC: Max was completely taken aback when he saw the whole process of setting up for his battle. He never imagined that the grass type gym would have water, more or less deadly water as the leader had described it. Well, maybe if he stayed away from the water he would be safe. All of the Pokemon were quiet, even Blast was to awestruck to bark or anything. The moment calmed Max and he felt that it was preparing him mentally for the battle. He spoke in a soft voice as to not ruin the moment, "I would like to have a Single Battle, please." As these words left his mouth, he stepped into his stand, a cage as it appeared. He waited to see what would happen next.

She nodded, but said nothing. She stared at Blast, a look of blankness taking over her features. She looked away, and nodded to the Bellsprout whose vines had done the weird 'dance' to make the water appear. It nodded back, and dove right into the water. It swam gracefully through the water, going at a leisurely pace, until it reached the grassy pod in the middle. The jouney took it almost six minutes, since the water's area was increasing rapidly. The Bellsrpout immdediately stuck it's smallest roots in the ground upon arriving there to recover any miniscule amounts of energy that had been lost during the long swim, even though none had been. It released them just as quickly, and it was ready for battle. Serenity lifted her head, suddenly looking more human and less... Gorgeous model-slash-plant. She looked alert, prepared, and confident. Wow, if this was the FIRST gym leader... "Let the battle..." "<Begin!>" Both she and Exeggutor finished the statement, causing all the onlookers to cheer. They all looked expectantly at Max, and waited for him to make his move.

Hmm, she looked at Blast like he was my first choice. I guess I'll try out my weaker Pokemon first, to show them what a gym battle is like. "Alright, Tentaros I choose you!" Max yelled, throwing his pokeball. "Don't be fooled by that things size. Remember the other Bellsprout we caught." Tentars's eyes tightened in an angry thinking pose. He knew the Bellsprout was tough, it was a gym battle. Sometimes, Max seemed like he thought he was stupid. Then the memory of the Honeydew Bellsprout episode flashed in his mind. With the vigor he found in it, he was ready for the battle. "Tentaros, wait for the Bellsprout to make her first move." Tentaros obeyed, ready to smash the plant if it came near him. I hate Honeydew, both trainer and Pokemon thought at the same time.

Serenity said nothing in comment, whether towards the battle, Max, or his Shiny Tauros. The thing looked low levelled, and wild. What was the trainer thinking, using a bull, who was totally land based, on a water field? She made no outwardly sign of her thoughts, but simply gazed at her Bellsprout. "Alright, Bellsprout, dive in! Let's show him what you're made of." The Bellsprout peeled off the small section of land, and fell with a light splash into freezing cold waters. It didn't bother the Bellsprout much, since it was used to it, but to other pokemon... It dove all the way under, and didn't come up for air even once. Odd how the best sets of lungs go to twigs. Vines and long, thick cords of grass and twine began growing out of the land. It was then that their plan became so obviously genius! The Bellsprout was trying to tie Tentaros to the ground with Wrap! Good job... Now, will it work? Serenity thought, drumming her fingers on the beautifully crafted metal. Though it wasn't even slightly apparent from afar, there was a look of sure confidence covering her smooth features. After this battle, the officials would SURELY remove her from the first town!

As the vines came up, Max was sure that a flying type would have been a better choice to face this gym. To bad all of his Pokemon were land based. If the gym leader knew what trouble she was putting Max through, the trouble of vines, then she would have sensed his anger. The bull was angry too. Like trainer like Pokemon. The vines would get in his ways. Atleast Tentaros isn't expected to win. I just wanted him to see what a real battle is like, thought Max. "Use a Tail Whip to deflect all of those vines" Max shouted. With anger came power and agility, which strengthened Tentaros. He let all 3 of his tails lash out, escaping th epunishment of all the vines that came in his way. Max grew quiet as he watched the ongoing battle.

((Three tails, 1/3 of Tauros' body length, can reach vines crawling out of the ground! Woohoo! Stretchy-tail!)) It was as though the Bellsprout was overly determined to ensnare the Shiny Tauros, it's opponent who was in bad need of anger management. It continued allowing vines to fly up out of the ground, though their length was slightly limited. Whether they wrapped around Tentauros' legs, or smacked him, the plant didn't seem to care. Excellent, Bellsprout! Serenity thought, grinning in smug satisfaction. Her pokemon were so smart! It was sucking oxygen from below the small, but thick, island! Genius! The Bellsprout let it's roots go for a few seconds so it's head could get closer to the island. It grabbed on to the muddy bottom of it, and allowed it's vines to go up a few inches higher.

OoC: I like to imagine XD
BiC: The Tauros tried and tried but to no avail. The vines ensnared him and he was getting more mad by the second. Soon he would explode, so Max thought. We don't need him to get angry, that won't help anything. Stay Calm, Max prayed in his head. But the Tauros had other plans. His rage was up high and he released an attack Max didn't even know he had. Rage. He turned red in the face and he was charging all of the vines, very powerfully, stomping the ground all the while. Maybe the Bellsprout would be shaken by the semi-earthquake and let go of the vine grasps. The shear power of Rage made Max tremble, scared for even his own life around the Tauros.
